The programme Growing Up in Tolerance begins from early childhood, when children already notice differences but are still learning how to speak about them, understand them and build relationships without exclusion. DUGA was therefore designed as a tool for everyday kindergarten practice: close to children's experience, yet open enough to help educators guide conversations about emotions, belonging, friendship and respect.
In the pilot phase, the Centre produced the video story DUGA, directed by Hrvoje Korbar and performed by Maruška Aras. The story uses a strong visual and performative language to introduce children to diversity without moralising: through colour, emotion, rhythm, voice and recognisable situations that can continue through conversation and play.
The second phase of the programme introduced the handbook DUGA - a story of equal diversity. Diversity education in kindergarten by Dr Višnja Vekić-Kljaić and Nataša Popović. The handbook gives educators concrete, pedagogically grounded activities for children aged 3 to 6: conversation prompts, visual and creative tasks, cooperative games, reflection on emotions and activities that help children understand diversity as part of shared life.
The programme continues through artistic and educational content for early childhood and preschool education. The public call for young artists opened space for new works that can be used in kindergartens, including visual, performative, multimedia, puppet and picture-book formats. In that sense, DUGA is not only one video or one handbook, but the Centre's developing platform for learning tolerance from the earliest age.
